NGD Sports

The NGD Star Sports Department.
The NGD Star Sports Department of Nsengiyumva Global Development Foundation (also known as "NGD Sports" and "NGD Star Sports") was created on March 15, 2014 in Magara of Commune Bugarama in the Province of Rumonge, Burundi.

The Sports Department currently oversees 32 sports clubs in 18 localities of 3 provinces (Makamba, Rumonge, and City of Bujumbura) located in the South-Western part Burundi. These sports clubs are run on daily basis through 3 Sports Academies which provide basic and professional training in Soccer (Football), Running and Cycling Athletics, and Basketball.

Our Sports Academies

Supportive Environment
Our main focus is having an open communication policy that builds strong relationships between players, parents,  coaches and the wider community. It is vital that our players feel valued and supported by learning in a positive environment. We also have many communication pathways such as face-to-face, telephone, email social media profiles, and social media messaging groups.

Teaching and Coaching
We have highly qualified coaches with the latest knowledge and understanding of training techniques. We have high expectations in how we coach our players and make sure to support each child by differentiating our programs and sessions to support their needs.

Approach
In each session or game we promote a positive approach using encouraging positive language, team work, fair play and inclusiveness. Respect is highly expected between everyone including players, coaches, opposing teams and families. This is important in the lifelong learning of each player as they will learn skills of working respectively in a team.

Reflection
At the Academy, we use reflective practices to support players in making better decision making. Reflection is a main tool to help guide players into better problem solving that helps players set goals to develop their strengths and support areas they are still developing. At the Academy, we pride ourselves on providing a supportive environment that brings out the best in our players.

Community Leadership
We aim to develop great athletes whether in Basketball, Football, Running, or Cycling. More importantly, we aim to instill in our athletes the qualities to become leaders in their communities. It is NGD’s hope that all the young people playing the courts will become front-runners in their community in the Republic of Burundi, in Africa and in the World. The NGD Foundation helps to empower the youth of Burundi to address the issues of their community in an informed way. It is also the focus of NGD Foundation to teach young leaders to interact in a sustainable and conscious way with their environment.

Life-skills Curriculum
Sport is an efficient and effective vehicle in instilling character and values essential for positive change. NGD has developed a life-skills curriculum to enhance the development of these character traits and values so that each and every member of NGD is conscious and informed as leaders in their communities.
